Vostokenergo

Vostokenergo comprises three thermal power plants: Zuyevskaya, Kurkahovskaya (both in Donetsk Region) and Luganskaya (Lugansk Region). Its installed capacity is 4,157 MW. Following the successful modernisation of its equipment, the installed capacity increased 32 MW in 2009 and  40 MW in 2010.

All of Vostokenergo’s thermal power plants are fuelled primarily by thermal coal produced by DTEK. A stable supply of quality coal enabled natural-gas consumption to be reduced from 435.4 m3 in 2001 to 34.4 million m3 in 2009. Since 2005 gas has been used at the power plants only for starting the power blocks. The consumption of fuel oil has also been significantly reduced (from 58,000 tonnes in 2001 to 52,000 tonnes in 2009). Thanks to these measures, the cost of sales of electricity produced by Vostokenergo is significantly lower than that of competitors, driving demand for its output on the market.

Vostokenergo is implementing an energy-saving strategy and an environmental policy that have already led to a reduction of ash emissions by the power blocks, which have been modernised, by 50%.

Since 2007 Vostokenergo has undertaken a major modernisation programme, due to be completed by 2016. The aim is to increase the reliability and efficiency of generation equipment and thus reduce the cost of sales of electricity produced.
