Face

  1. The area where minerals or rocks are extracted. In underground mines, the face is the area directly developed by the excavator. In opencast developments, the face can be either flank or frontal, depending on its position.
  2. The mining surface from which minerals or rocks are extracted and which moves as a result of mining activity.
  3. In borehole drilling, the front of the borehole, the surface of which is drilled by the drilling instrument.
